Director of Bands - John Hairel

Prior to his appointment at Turner Mr. Hairel served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and the acting Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Kentucky. He is currently finishing his dissertation for completion of the Doctor of Music Arts Degree in Wind Band Conducting from the University of Kentucky.

Mr. Hairel began his teaching career at Wilson Jr. High in Lubbock, Texas where he served as the Director of Bands. His students frequently received Sweepstakes and 1^st division ratings at UIL Concert Band and Solo and Ensemble events.

Mr. Hairel holds the Masters of Music degree in Wind Band Conducting from Texas Tech University where he studied with Dr. J. Cody Birdwell. While there he served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant working directly with Mr. Keith Bearden, Director of the Goin’ Band From Raiderland. Hairel also assisted in teaching undergraduate conducting courses and served as the Director of the Concert Band. Hairel received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Utah State University in 1998. He has studied conducting with Dr. J. Cody Birdwell, Mr. Tim Reynish, Keith Bearden, Gary Lewis and Fred J. Allen.

Mr. Hairel is an active member with the National Band Association, College Band Directors Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Texas Music Educators Association, Kappa Kappa Psi.

A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Mr. Hairel grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and graduated from Fletcher Sr. High School in Neptune Beach, Florida in 1989. He is married and has four wonderful children

Assistant Band Director - Paul Ailey

Previous experience in Texas at Waxahachie, Arlington, and Grand Prairie School districts. Graduate of Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Directs the Concert Band, Percussion group & Drum Line.

Married, 1 brand new baby girl. Enjoys sports, playing basketball, golf, and drum corps.
